Corruption reports go down

Botswana's graft buster, the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) received 1,701 reports of graft from January to November this year.

The DCEC classified 599 reports for investigation and gave advice on 204 others.
In a press statement, the DCEC says 791 reports did not fall under their mandate and they have since been referred to the relevant law-enforcement bodies.

From January to November 2008, the DCEC received 1,718 reports, with 573 being classified for investigation while advice was given on 215. The DCEC says 71 of the reports were repeats while 51 were retained for intelligence.

"The remaining 808 did not fall under the mandate of the DCEC hence they were referred to other relevant departments," the press statement says.
