BNSC project bears fruit

The Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) says it is beginning to see the fruits of the 'Know Your Sports Council' project. The initiative is meant to familiarise BNSC affiliates and employees about the organisation's programmes through workshops.

The first workshop was held last month. BNSC chief executive officer Kitso Kemoeng said they have realised the difference between those who attended the workshop and those that did not take part. "There are those we feel will perform better if they had attended the workshop," he told Mmegi Sport yesterday. The next workshop would be held in October. Kemoeng pointed out that the way their affiliates approach them nowadays shows that they understand and appreciate the BNSC.

However, he said they do not expect only one workshop to bring a complete change. He believes with more workshops, affiliates will be better placed to change their way of doing things. He said that they no longer have many queries like before and BNSC is pulling in the same direction with affiliates. "They even help us explain some of the things to our clients," he revealed. Kemoeng said Know Your Sports Council is a good initiative because it is open to everybody from officials to athletes. He said unlike other workshops, they allow more than two representatives from each affiliate. He added the BNSC secretariat has learnt lessons from the affiliates. The council has always complained of affiliates dragging their feet when it comes to completing assignments. The problems ranged from affiliates failing to submit their budgets or names for consideration for the annual sports awards.
