Reports say Tafa had a meeting with the late Nchindo sometimes last week where he told his client that he was pulling out of the case. "That is a lie. We have not withdrawn from the case," he said. Lawrence Khupe, an associate partner of Collins Newman was in court representing Nchindo and his co-accused last week Thursday. Tafa is a partner at the firm.

Nchindo faced the corruption charges together with his son Garvas and former Debswana managers, Joseph Matome and Jacob Sesinyi.

Tafa has rubbished talk that Matome and Sesinyi have indicated an intention to turn state witnesses. "That is rubbish. They will never turn state witnesses. Why will they?" he said.

The attorney has called for people to be humane and respect his client's death and stop peddling lies. The quartet's legal bill is expected to run into millions of Pula. They had high profile lawyers and at one time had senior counsels from South Africa like Eduard Fagan and Peter Hodes. At one time, seven defence lawyers appeared in the case in a single session. However Tafa has refused to say who will be footing the steep legal bill after Nchindo's death.

When contacted for comment, Matome said: "Talk to our lawyer. He will answer all your queries". Efforts to get Sesinyi's comments were futile as his mobile was off-air.
