Culture Spears, who have managed to release three smash hit albums in the last five years, were rewarded with the Presidential Award of Merit last year because of their exploits.

In 2008 they were invited by the then South African president Thabo Mbeki to perform for him. They were later booked for some high profile African National Congress (ANC) shows in South Africa later that year.

Last year Culture Spears' hit song Khudu won them Song of the Year award as well as Best Video at the Botswana Musicians Union (BOMU) awards.  Their other amazing album before Khudu, Kulenyane also reaped a number of awards. The song's popularity saw leading South African DJs Bujo Mujo reproducing Kulenyane as a house song, while another renowned South African gospel musician, Solly Moholo, bought the rights of the song to make his own Mokhukhu version of Kulenyane.

According to the Zimbabwe government-run paper The Chronicle, Culture Spears  will be the main entertainment act at this year's National Arts Merit Awards (Nama) to be held in Harare on. The paper says  Culture Spears will share the stage with Zimbabwe's local performers to spice up the event, which will see seven  arts celebrate the best to come out of Zimbabwe.

Nama the main forum at the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, (NACZ) recognises outstanding achievements in the area of the arts.

The council considers the awards as one of the means that will stimulate and encourage creativity and quality in the arts and culture sector.

In addition, over the years Nama has become the only platform where the who-is-who in the arts and culture sector meet each other, their fans and the captains of commerce and industry, The Chronicle report says.
