Can the people govern?

By the 'people' is meant the masses, the majority in any state: the working people who produce all the basic goods that sustain human life: food, clothes, houses and luxuries enjoyed by the ruling classes and the wont-work; the masses who serve us food in our kitchens, restaurants and braai-places, deliver our mail, sweep our streets, do our beds, drive cars, serve us drinks, do laundry, nanny babies and render all the services that keep the upper class kicking, happy and feeling next to God.


The word ‘people’ is used repeatedly in the definition of democracy: “Democracy is government of the people, by the people, for the people! People come first in democracies.  Why would anybody doubt that people can govern?
