Amrouche lands Zebras job

MQONDISI DUBE
Belgian, Adel Amrouche has won the race to become the next Zebras coach, Mmegi Sport can reveal.

Botswana Football Association (BFA) chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo, said a substantive coach has been identified, without mentioning names.

“The appointment has been endorsed by NEC, but I am constrained to share the substantive at the moment because contractual obligations are still been attended to,” said Mfolo.

But Mmegi Sport can reveal that Amrouche’s curriculum vitae impressed authorities at Lekidi Centre and he is expected to resume duty soon.

The former Kenya, Libya and Burundi coach is expected to be in charge before the end of the month.

However, he is yet to put pen to paper, as the association has not sent the contract for signing. Amrouche and the association managed to strike a deal suitable to both parties in terms of remuneration, after the

P120,000 offer, had been viewed as insufficient.

The BFA is preparing a three-year contract with the much-travelled Amrouche, tasked with taking the Zebras to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, as part of his deliverables.

However, that might prove to be a tough task as the Zebras are in a difficult group that has holders, Algeria, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Interim Zebras coach, Mogomotsi Mpote is expected to remain in the technical team as assistant to Amrouche.

He will take over a Zebras side that has already been eliminated from one of the three major competitions, after Botswana bowed out of the African Nations Championships (CHAN) last week.

Amrouche holds a UEFA Pro Licence, a Master of Ergonomics in Physical Activity and a CAF A Licence.
