President Ian Khama launched a new family of coins in Gaborone yesterday.

The new coins went into circulation immediately while the old coins that are being replaced are expected to be out of circulation in six months’ time from today.

The new coins showcase Botswana’s natural heritage and are larger than those currently in circulation, with distinct security features to guard against crime.  Present at the launch of the new family of coins were former President Sir Ketumile Masire, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning Kenneth Matambo, the Governor of the Bank of Botswana Linah Mohohlo, former cabinet minister Dr Gaositwe Chiepe, as well as CEOs of several parastatals.
