After the Africa Karate Championship (UFAK) Rwanda 2018, Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) was given the nod to host the 2019 edition.  BOKA president, Tshepho Bathai approached Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) with what was perceived to be good news. But to his shock, he was turned down.

BOKA had written to the mother body about their intention to host the tournament. Karate was accused of failing to follow the hosting policy.

That did not dampen Bathai’s spirit as he forged ahead and appealed the decision with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development (MYSC). The Ministry gave BOKA the green light.
