The Monitor :: Masisi Blasts 'Defiant' BDP MPs

Masisi said it was surprising that some legislators do not support their leader and questioned their motive.

He was officially opening the Gaborone Region Special Congress in Gaborone over the weekend.

“I call on you to be truthful and vote for me in Kang. I do not want fake support. We can see some people have changed. They are sending different messages. Even in Parliament and I have asked them that they state what exactly they want to say,” said Masisi. “I do not like things that are not truthful. I consult with your legislators and I expect all MPs to do the same. How can you be in Parliament and not support your leader? Who is going to lead you and where are you going?,” he added.

Even though Masisi did not drop any names, a couple of BDP legislators have displayed some of the traits he mentioned.

Recently, Nata- Gweta legislator, Polson Majaga tabled a motion calling for the direct election of the President and also that ministers should be selected from outside parliament.

Some BDP legislators including Vice President, Slumber Tsogwane and Nonofho Molefi opposed the motion, which later passed. It later turned out that Majaga did not discuss the motion with

the BDP caucus.

Other obvious candidates for Masisi’s words are Pelonomi Venson- Moitoi and Samsom Moyo Guma. Venson- Moitoi shocked many last year when he announced that he will be challenging Masisi for presidency.

Masisi moved swiftly to drop her from Cabinet. Guma openly stated that he supports Venson- Moitoi. He even attended the infamous meeting in Serowe alongside amongst others former president Ian Khama. Guma called on Khama to be actively involved in BDP matters while Khama took a swipe at Masisi’s leadership style.

Still at the congress, Masisi said after leaving the presidency he would go and work in his Moshupa West ward and branch as a disciplined ordinary member.

He called on the democrats to vote for him as he has done and continues to do a lot of good for the country.

“When I came, workers were not happy. We have since resolved the impasse and they appreciate our effort. A lot of you were living scared in you own country; it is now in the past as I dealt with the issue. I continue to go around the globe to solicit investors and I can assure you that a lot of jobs will be created,” he said.
