Bank Gaborone’s Graduate Training Scheme Enrolls Ten

STAFF WRITER
Bank Gaborone has launched its second installment of the bank’s graduate training programme for 2019/2020 by enrolling 10 graduates from local tertiary institutions.

The scheme accords graduates, who completed their tertiary education within the last 12 months an opportunity to bolster their theoretical knowledge and practical know-how at the bank.  As part of the programme, graduates join the Bank Gaborone for 18 months where they gain valuable hands on experience in all their operational areas within the bank.

Graduates are also allocated mentors from within the bank who will be responsible for ensuring that they are guided and supported throughout. They will also receive regular input from the bank’s in- house psychologist who will assist them in considering their options and choices as they take first steps on their individual career paths.

Speaking during the launch, Bank Gaborone’s managing director, Sybrand Coetzee said through the programme they aim to develop increased self confidence levels in each graduate as well as help them learn how to work well in teams.

“At the end of the programme, each graduate will understand the different operational areas of the bank and will be able to use this increased business acumen wherever they go. They will also be given an opportunity to join the bank should they be interested in doing so and should an appropriate position be available,” he said.

Coetzee, the programme will benefit the bank, as it consistently seeks to remain current and relevant to its clients and stakeholders, thus reduce the skills gap currently faced by the bank and many other businesses.

He said this initiative is for the bank to actively support the government’s drive towards reducing the level of unemployment in the country especially amongst local graduates from institutions of tertiary education.

“We will do whatever we can to ensure that graduate talent is identified and connected to opportunities to gain practical experience in the financial industry. By doing so we will play our part in ensuring that graduates are able to become more employable by our bank and other corporate players in our country’s financial sector,” he said.

In addition, he noted that the programme offers graduates an opportunity to be part of bank and ultimately the Capricorn group family.

Bank Gaborone member of Capricorn Group, a regional financial group with operations in Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and South Africa. “We believe that by being connectors of positive change we will remain economically viable, environmentally conscious, socially fair and continue to be a bank that differentiates itself from its competitors through changing lives for the better,” he said.
