Masisi defends Khama's no-show at United Nations

President Ian Khama's infamous no-show at international commitments, notably the United Nations (UN) General Assembly and African Union(AU) summit does not imply such meetings are not important. Mokgweetsi Masisi said this to Parliament yesterday. Since his inauguration in 2008, President Khama has not personally attended the UN General Assemblies and the AU Heads of States summits. Masisi said the president sent representatives such as the Vice President or the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.


However, since coming into power, Khama has attended six Conservation International (CI) board meetings, accompanied by a delegation of five officers being his senior private secretary, chief of protocol, two security officers and a presidential nurse.
