Parents Advised Against Keeping Children With Disabilities 'Hidden'

FRANCISTOWN: According the United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) there is a paucity of information about the number of children with disabilities in many countries and how these difficulties affect their lives.

The United Nations (UN) agency report (Children with disabilities state of the world’s children 2013) also states children with disabilities face various forms of exclusion and are affected by them to varying levels depending on the type of disability they have, where they live and the culture or class to which they belong thus excluded are unknown to, and therefore cut off from, public services to which they are entitled.

UNICEF also states that if disabled children are cut off from many things that non-disabled people enjoy, these may have long-term effects like having access to gainful employment or participation in social activities in future.
