Mookodi’s candidature came under scrutiny, with question marks over whether he could stand as an ‘elder’. According to those close to the electoral process, he was treated as a ‘special case’ thus sparking confusion amongst the GU faithful.  “That one is a special case, and it has confused a lot of people. The constitution is silent on the matter but normally elders do not stand for an executive position but, instead, form a committee of elders which is headed by the president,” a source said.

Elders’ committee secretary general and one of the overseers of the electoral process, Mompati Ngwako said the club’s constitution does not bar anyone who has been a member of the club for two consecutive years, hence elders are allowed to stand for any position although it has not been common practice in the past.
