Foreign affairs ministry to invest in property

The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Gaimelwe Goitsemang has told the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that the ministry is considering buying properties outside the country to avoid renting offices and houses for diplomats.

Though he did not disclose the amount of money they are paying for rental, Goitsemang said when appearing before PAC yesterday: “Buying properties could become less expensive for government as compared to renting”.

He said renting is not sustainable and that is why they had come up with a way in which they could buy the properties. “We have bought property in Kenya and very soon we would buy in two different countries,” he said.
