There have been some shocking results in the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) primary elections or Bulela Ditswe as it is commonly called that was held over weekend, as some prominent Cabinet ministers and incumbent Members of Parliament (MP) lost.

The minister of environment, natural resources conservation and tourism and MP for Serowe West Tshekedi Khama’s court case against his party had taken the attention from the usually controversial BDP primaries; however, the election results got everyone talking after some party heavyweights were defeated.

While many were of the view that Khama would lose against Moemedi Dijeng whom he had wanted disbarred from contesting, he actually trounced him by a heavy margin.
