The Monitor :: Low Turnout Sours Boitumelo Benefit Concert

However, the Boitumelo Benefit Concert was marred by a low turn out, as many people mocked the event’s schedule and their decision not to allow people to bring their own cooler boxes.

The event, which started at 10am and ended at 10pm failed to attract the huge numbers as anticipated by the organisers who had targeted to raise over a million pula through the music show.

The concert whose theme was ‘a life lived for others is a life worthwhile’ featured both local and South Africa’s great musicians from 10am until 10pm.

Amongst the artists who performed at the concert was South African soul sensation, Samthing Soweto, well known for his hit, Akanamali.

Revellers also got to see another South African vocalist and poet, Busisiwa while soul sensation Mpho Sebina, Han C and popular Mosakaso singer Charma Gal were amongst the local acts at the 12-hour spectacle.

The Boitumelo Foundation is a non-profit organisation that aims to lend a hand in supporting deserving community efforts in Botswana, some of which is the Masiela

Trust.

Most people arrived at the entrance when the concert was just about to wrap up, also around the time the bars were about to close.

A large number of revellers could be seen strolling outside the concert venue, but could not get inside because the concert was just about to end.Meanwhile, different artists tried their best to make the 12-hour event a memorable one.

Han C, who needs no introduction to the local fans showed why he is amongst the promising local talents when he got up on stage.

The singer and songwriter dished out his latest offering, Mafurafura in which Berry Bone features him.

The Sedilaka hitmaker, who released his first album last year sang the crowd’s favourite hit Seileng and he left the stage a happy man because the crowd loved his performance.

Busisiwa, who headlined the show also did not disappoint even though the crowd seemed to enjoy listening to her songs than dancing along.

She performed some of her popular songs such as Bazoyenza, Ngibambe and Lahla.
