Police imposters on the loose

Botswana Police Service is warning the public about fraudsters masquerading as police officers. The warning follows incidents in Gaborone, Tlokweng, Lobatse, Palapye and Moshupa where criminals purporting to be police officers deceived their targets.

According to police spokesperson, Near Bagali, the criminals are demanding Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and their Personal Identification Number (PIN), and in the process withdraw money from unsuspecting victims’ bank accounts under the pretext that they are police officers investigating cases of stolen money deposited into their accounts.

After they do so the criminals would then disappear into thin air.
