When addressing the gathering, Mack whose love for poetry is inspired by an American poet, singer and civil rights activist, Maya Angelou, said she took delight in the beauty of words.

She said her book was inspired by incidents that happened around her. Mack said through poetry, she aims at unearthing issues that are taboo in society, depression, love and others.

This brilliant writer and performer got the limelight when she performed at Fashion Without Borders.

Since then she never looked back as she started writing her poetry book that has romance, raises awareness on different issues such as depression, gender-based issues and more. She said she believes she could learn from other individuals and herself.

She recited one of her beautiful poems I Want You For Myself, a romantic poem where a young woman was expressing her fantasy and desires over a certain handsome man. She said the poem was meant to express the dark feelings that people never want to share. Her poem, Do You Not See touched the audiences’ hearts.

“This poem speaks of my life. In life, we mostly tend to settle for things that we do not deserve.

Despite the situations and things one goes through in life we have to love ourselves. Let’s love ourselves before we can love the next person. We have to know that we are enough. My story of depression, I felt like I had hit rock bottom only to realise that God had plans for me,” she boldly said.

Mack said she hoped her

poetry book would revive families as it was filled with intimate poems. She further urged the youth out there to start pursuing their dreams and not let them go to waste.

One of the intriguing poems from that book is I Wear What I Want, recited by Chaikwa. It talks of how society pushes women to a corner with expectations of how they should behave, wear and live their lives forgetting that they are also humans needing to wear whatever they wanted without being judged.

Her mentor Gaona Dintwe, who is also a media personality, said she met Mack on social media after the young woman introduced herself to her and asked to mentor her. “I love inspiring young people to become the best they can be. When this talented poet introduced herself to me, I knew that there was something special about her,” she proudly said.

“She told me she was a poet and a student who wanted to publish her book. We agreed that she should go out there, build her brand and publish her book. I was surprised when I was invited to the book launch eight months later and realised that indeed Mack is a go-getter and a very brave young woman.”

For his part, the author’s coach, Boago Ramogapi, dared the audience to love themselves, be the best they can ever be and be the true version of themselves.

He said the book was telling stories that ordinary people could relate to, which was something commendable.
