Daniel Oletile breaks kwasakwasa dominance

When he took on other participants in the Best Live Band category at this year’s President’s Day Competitions, traditional gospel artist Daniel Oletile knew that it was like swimming against the tide when facing kwasakwasa artists.

But with his Zion Christian Church (ZCC) songs and dance, Daniel Oletile serenaded the crowd at Tsholofelo Park last weekend, impressed the judges and emerged the overall winner in the category.  He performed a song from his one and only album, Morwalela, which has 11 tracks and was released back in 2016.

Daniel Oletile, who was competing for the first time as a solo artist, walked away with the P30,000 cash prize.  The artist, who was once part of a group called City Boys gospel band told Arts & Culture that he managed to win because of the band he had assembled.
