BOMU Carnival Festival A Dismal Failure

The first Botswana Musicians Union (BOMU) carnival music festival that was billed to be a picture-perfect music show failed to live up to expectations.

The Monitor :: BOMU Carnival Festival A Dismal Failure

In an effort to unite the music industry and prove that local artists can pull a crowd, BOMU hosted its first ever all local line-up carnival music festival on Saturday at Trekkers garden in Mogoditshane.

The show was initially scheduled for April 28, 2018 at Stanbic Bank Piazza but was postponed after some stakeholders convinced the organisers that they wanted to take part in the initiative.

The line-up for the show had some of the big name artists such as, Diva Vebrok,  Vee Mampeezy, ATI, Punah Gabasiane, Slizer, Mlesho, Berry Heart and Skavenja amongst others.

Despite boasting a star-studded line-up, the show failed to live up to expectation. First, the organisers did not to stick to the scheduled time of commencement, as the show was scheduled to begin at 12 noon but by 2000 hours, the first artist had not performed.

It was expected that the

show would pull a big crowd looking at the line-up, however it was the artists and their bands who were most visible at the venue popularly known to pull big crowds. Compared to the recently shows held by Franco and Vee Mampeezy, which pulled large crowds, it was evident that the timing was not perfect.

The decision to reschedule the show for winter might have backfired and contributed to the low turn up. For the fact that the show started very late, most artists were allowed to perform at least two songs as MC’s were racing against time. It was only the likes of Vee Mampeezy and Slizer who were allowed more time on stage. The festival couldn’t even put up a fight or a fist for that matter.  This was the biggest disappointment as the entrance fee was just P50.
