'Fanta' a surprise omission for Mascom award

Township Rollers’ defender, Mosha ‘Fanta’ Gaolaolwe is a surprise omission from the Mascom Top 8 awards nominees. The ceremony to honour outstanding players and officials takes place on Wednesday.

Gaolaolwe, despite playing a pivotal role in the cup competition that saw Rollers defeat Orapa United by 4-2 in the final, is not amongst the nominees for the Player of the tournament award.

He has been beaten by his captain, Maano Ditshupo and Orapa United’s Kobamelo Kebaikanye and Gilbert Baruti of Jwaneng Galaxy. Gaolaolwe has not only been consistent in the knockout competition but also in the league in which his side is still in the running to win it for the third consecutive time. His surprise omission leaves his teammate, Ditshupo as the firm favourite to win the prestigious award. Ditshupo was voted the man of the match in the final in which his side thrashed The Ostriches 4-2. Kebaikanye, despite helping his side reach the final, fell short in the final and struggled against veteran right back, Tshepo Motlhabankwe. Baruti was also instrumental in Jwaneng Galaxy’s run, but his side was knocked out on an away goal rule by the champions.
