Beef Producers Approve Commercialisation Of BMC

Botswana National Beef Producers Union (BNBPU), the cattle producers’ apex body, has applauded a decision by government to commercialise the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) as a business entity jointly owned by government and the farmers.

The Union believe that the policy would bring the much needed changes necessary not only to improve producer prices, but to also ensure long term sustainability of the livestock and cattle industry in this country.

In addition they noted that the establishment of an independent livestock and meat regulatory body to handle the licencing of abattoirs, including export abattoirs would give the necessary comfort and impetus for investment in the industry.
