The herdboy, Ramokgosi Ramokgosi, 27, and Thuso Diane, 25, landed in hot soup after they allegedly murdered Sediretse Marape, 67, at Tonota village between February 3 and 5.

The duo allegedly killed Ramokgosi’s former boss over a pay dispute.

As yet, they have not been charged with rape pending results of exhibits that were sent to the police forensic laboratory for analysis.

However, sources close the case are of a strong view that the accused may have also raped the deceased at her place before killing her since she was found naked with her thighs open.

On Friday, inspector Kenneth Edward applied for the accused to be further remanded in custody because police investigations into the matter are still not complete.

He said: “We are awaiting for the postmortem report and results of other exhibits that were sent to the laboratory for analysis. The investigating officer has told me that he is still looking for two more witnesses whom he is yet to record statements from. We therefore apply for the accused to further be remanded in custody.”

In response, Ramokgosi said he had nothing to say in relation to the application for his further remand in custody.

For his part, Diane prayed with the court to grant him his freedom.

“In the past, I have indicated that the first accused person said that I should be freed from this case since I know nothing about it. I make an application to be freed from this case,” said Diane.

Diane’s averment, Edward prayed with the court to not accede to what Diane said.

He added: “The court should not be swayed by what the second accused person said. I have indicated that our investigations are still not complete. We pray that the court should not release the second accused person based on what the first accused person said. Our ongoing investigations are the ones that will determine if the second accused person can be absolved from this serious offence or not.”

Magistrate Amantle Lungisani acceded to the application made by the prosecution for the accused to be further remanded in custody.

They are due in court on March 8 for another mention.

Diane caused an ugly and unnecessary scene outside after he took off one of his shoes threatening to hit Tebogo Mmolawa of Gabz FM with the shoe.

Prison officials and the police fortunately restrained him before he threw the shoe towards Mmolawa whose only ‘sin’ was to take the accused person’s photos.

Relatives of Marape who had gathered outside court and were clearly still seething with anger in the wake of her death wanted to join the melee in defence of Mmolawa after Diane tried to hit him with the shoe.

They were overhead saying that Diane’s actions showed that he was a scumbag who deserved to be taught a lesson for killing their relative.

Some of them even said that Diane deserved to be hanged by the neck until he died for his despicable actions.
