Promotion Battle intensifies In First Division South League

The battle for the top spot in the Debswana First Division South league continued over the weekend as Prisons XI leapfrogged Notwane at the summit on Saturday.

The Warders defeated Black Peril 1-0 and returned to winning ways after hitting a slump in the last two games. Notwane on the other hand survived a scare after their long trip to Tsabong.

Rangers who have proved to be a tough customer in their own backyard took the lead in the first half but Notwane’s exciting attacker, Tlhalefo Molebatsi came to Notwane’s rescue and levelled matters with about 10 minutes remaining as the two sides settled for a 1-1 draw.

Mogoditshane Fighters lost ground with the two contenders once again following their 2-1 loss to Red Sparks.

It was Mogoditshane Fighters’ third consecutive loss.

The rough patch kicked off with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Notwane two weeks ago before they were stunned by Matebejane the following week.

With Saturday victory, Prisons XI have now collected 33 points from 16 games while Notwane accumulated 32 points. Fighters still managed to retain their third position despite the setback and trail log leaders, Prisons XI by four points.

Broadhurst United have since moved to position four after their 1-0 win over Letlapeng

while Black Peril have now dropped to position five.

For the past three months, the Debswana First Division South log has produced some interesting results with three sides; Prisons XI, Notwane and Mogoditshane Fighters fighting for the top spot.

For the better part of the first round, Notwane enjoyed their stay at the top before Prisons XI caught up and occupied the position towards the end of last year.

Mogoditshane Fighters, who had a slow start to the season, also slowly caught up with the two sides and recently found themselves at the summit.

However, they have since hit a rough patch once again with three consecutive losses.

Red Sparks have also made a significant move into position six following their victory over Fighters.

Matebejane are currently siting at the bottom of the log standings with 13 points while Lesirane sit at position 11 with the same number of points.

Lesirane lost 1-0 to Mochudi Rovers while Matebejane drew 1-1 with Modipane United.
