Botswana was supposed to host the games in 2020, but was brought in after Angola pulled out.  The games, which fall under the ambit of the Botswana Tertiary Student Sports Association (BOTESSA), will take place in Gaborone from June 18 to 22, 2018.

Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) chairperson, Solly Reikeletseng urged the new LOC to be patient as there are bottlenecks involved in getting money from the government.  He said the LOC should not be frustrated when there are delays.

“The LOC comprises of people with vast experience when it comes to event management.  They are the kind of people who can deliver successful games.  With four months left, we expect you to hit the ground running,” he said.

BOTESSA president, Herbert Letsebe said CUCSA member countries, Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Swaziland, Malawi, Angola, Lesotho, Mozambique and Namibia, will compete in karate, netball, basketball, athletics, chess, darts, football, table tennis. The multi-sport event is hosted every two

years by one of the 10-member countries.

The University of Botswana (UB), Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN), Botho University, National Stadium, Lekidi and BNYC will be the venues.

Countries are expected to arrive on June 16 and the athletes would be housed at UB.

Professor Martin Mokgwathi said UB is always willing to be a strategic partner, but sporting codes must be ready to contribute to the maintenance of the facilities.

He said codes always complain that it is expensive to use UB facilities, but this was unavoidable, as the facilities have to be kept in good condition.

The LOC: Thapelo Pabalinga (chairperson), Ivy Balopi (vice chairperson), Sonnyboy Sethibe (technical), Kebareng Mokobi (transport), Lekopanye Mogatle (security), Keitumetse Moletane (protocol), Boitshwarelo Lebang (publicity), Diphetogo Selolwane (chaperone), Roselyn Pansire (funds raising), Ntebo Maplanka (volunteers), Kagiso Gaodumele (medals), Treasure Mothobi (medical), Thapelo Kalake (funds raising), Zenzele Hirschfield (entertainment), Letsebe (ex-officio), Moreetsi Kediseng (ex-officio) and Keorapetse Setlhare (ex-officio).
