In his response to the budget proposal presented by finance minister, Kenneth Matambo, Boko said government has over the last nine years of President Ian Khama’s leadership, spent over P455.05 billion without real meaningful outcomes.

“Sadly they have very little real meaningful outcomes and results to show for such massive expenditure. Only 9,810 jobs were created in that period,” said Boko.

He said that rather, there has been a decline in employment over the years.

He stated that over 35% of young people could not find a job and many

have been searching for many years. Boko indicated that four in five young people, with tertiary qualifications are jobless.

He said government has failed to address unemployment as it came up with various uncoordinated and technically unsound programmes, which are not sustainable.

He called for the need to have targeted measures to support employment creation, which includes identifying areas termed job drivers such as agriculture and food processing, entertainment, performing arts, sport and tourism services, logistics/transportation services, information and communication technology, and sustainable energy and water.
