Botswana Police Service’s (BPS) director of crime intelligence, Nunu Lesetedi confirmed to The Monitor that two suspects have been arrested and are currently in police custody assisting with the investigations.

He said despite being foreign nationals the two suspects aged 28 and 39 reside at Mmopane village. He said the duo was arrested while in possession of a garget suspected to belong to the deceased who was a student at Botswana Accountancy College found dead nearby Molapo Crossing along the Western By-pass on January 17, 2018.

“If we can be satisfied with our preliminary investigations, the duo will soon appear before court to face an offence of murder,” Lesetedi said. When the deceased met his fate the police suspected mugging gone wrong as it was alleged that they attacked him and he fought back.

Then the police said the person who witnessed the incident as he was driving towards the bus stop revealed that the duo ran into

the nearby bush and the deceased followed them. The deceased had sustained chest injuries and the police suspected that a sharp object like a knife might have been used.

Meanwhile, Lesetedi said he is investigating a case in which three suspects, all Batswana, were nabbed in possession of cocaine last Thursday at Tlokweng border post.

He said the trio, a woman aged 33 and two men aged 24 and 19, was trying to cross the border into the country from South Africa.  He said the cocaine was found hidden inside the car that they were using. “We found them in possession of cocaine weighing 580 grammes worth more than P100,000 in street value.

“The most disappointing thing is that the two male suspects are civil servants, the people who could be helping the police to curb drug use in the country. We suspect that they might be the distributors of the cocaine,” said the concerned Lesetedi.
