Mogoditshane Fighters who had opened a three-point gap at the top ahead of the weekend matches, dropped to second position following a 2-0 loss to Notwane on Saturday.

Prisons XI are now sitting at the top with 29 points after their 1-0 win over Lesirane. Both Notwane and Prisons XI kicked off their year with losses a fortnight ago, allowing Fighters to open the lead at the top.

Prisons suffered at the hands of Mochudi Rovers while Notwane were shocked by Black Peril. The duo went into Saturday’s matches well aware of what was at stake if they were to lose again. Dubbed the biggest game of the weekend in the league, Notwane had to go and enter the Lion’s Den when they faced Fighters in their own backyard but came out victorious.

New signing, Ronald Selemane and Tlhalefo Molebatsi scored a goal each to put Notwane right

back into the race for automatic promotion into the elite league. Selemane who joined Notwane last week from TAFIC, scored in the first half with a diving header from another new signing, Boitumelo Modisaotsile’s cross.

In the second half when Fighters were still trying to come back into the game, a long ball was sent to substitute, Tsogang Israel who set up Molebatsi.

Molebatsi skillfully rounded off Fighters defence and goalkeeper, Botlhe Moralo before slotting into an empty net. The victory now puts Notwane just a point behind log leaders, Prisons XI and second placed Fighters with eight games left.

Black Peril also remained in contention after another victory this past weekend over Matebejane. They are trailing by four points while Broadhurst United are seven points behind after losing 2-0 to Red Sparks. Matebejane remain rooted at the bottom of the log with nine points.
