The camps have been taking place since last year in Maun. Camp Botswana is a week-long activity camp which runs school holiday camps working with schools across Botswana, Southern Africa, the United States of America (USA) and in the United Kingdom (UK).

“We are looking forward to having more students and young campers from around the country to be part of our initiative.

“This is a platform whereby young people go under the mentorship of different institutions. We run activities in a non-formal way of learning in a cultured and safe environment,” said Tjipo Keaikitse

She noted that the camp targets students who are aged between six to 18 years of age.

Activities that take place at the camp are horse-riding, boat cruise, sport matches, swimming, cooking classes, art and craft workshops amongst others.

Most of these activities that take place at the camp are conducted by professionals in their respective fields who also mentor the campers.

She disclosed that a number of students around the

country and places such as Zambia have already shown interest in participating in the camp.

She stated that the last edition in December attracted a wide variety of campers from across the world.

“Our vision is to give young people the opportunity to try new activities in a safe and nurturing environment.

“We also want to ensure that the goals of campers showing improvements in six key areas of social integration, global citizenship, environmental awareness, self-confidence, personal development and emotional intelligence,” said Bruce Lumino, a partner in the project who has been in the same industry for over a decade in the USA.

He said they take a maximum number of 100 campers in every camping they host and they are divided into groups that will have a trained team leader who has experience in first aid.

A number of campers who have attended Camp Botswana have given different testimonies about their experiences, with some stating that they want to go back.
