Toronto led the log for much of the first round, but have since slumped to third, and their qualification hopes have received a dent.

Instead, two other former Premier League sides, Prisons XI and Mogoditshane Fighters now occupy the two critical top spots on the log. Fighters are top with 29 points while Prisons are three points behind.

The top team gains automatic promotion, while the second goes through a play-off, to decide which sides make it to the BTC Premiership.

Notwane came up with a catchy tagline, 're thothora lerole', loosely translated means, “we are getting rid of dust” (derived from the dusty grounds used in the lower division), as they launched a campaign to return to the top division, after a three-year hiatus.

But while their campaign got off to a resounding start, it has slightly gone

downhill in recent weeks. They went unbeaten until rookies, Broadhurst United inflicted the first defeat on the last day of the first round.

They parted ways with Israel Molao when the results began to stagnate and in came Keitumetse ‘Pio’ Paul.

However, Paul last week saw his charges suffer a second defeat of the season, which left the team four points off the pace. They lost 1-0 to fourth placed Black Peril.

"I cannot say much since I joined the team as technical director in December. I have played two games, winning one and losing the other. There are nine games to go and it can go down to the wire. Anything is possible in football," Paul said.

At the bottom, it does not look good for table anchors, Matebejane who have nine points from 13 games.
