The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has spent P669,000 on primary elections popularly known as Bulela Ditswe that was held over the weekend.

The BDP held primary elections in 18 opposition-held constituencies.  Although the Bulela Ditswe had problems the BDP secretary general Mpho Balopi said at a press conference that their primary elections were peaceful as compared to previous years.

“Even some members who on television had openly said they do not accept the results have called me to apologise.  Sometimes people say things because they will be hurt by the outcome. Our mission as the BDP is very clear. It is to win opposition-held constituencies and we believe whoever wants to protest will follow the laid out BDP procedures. The BDP is not going to take long to address protests, which can be registered with the party,” Balopi said.
