Speaking to Showtime, Kgathi said unlike in the past, this year revellers will have a night to remember with high quality sound systems, performances, logistics and overall organisation of the event. He said just like other events that have prioritised security this year, they have also deployed a reputable security agency that has been in the industry for some time. He said they are also going to work with local authorities, the police especially to enforce and ensure the safety of revellers and their valuable assets at the event.

He said the event is conveniently centrally located and within reach for all the youth in Bobirwa who are primary beneficiaries. He however emphasised that though the event is dubbed Bobirwa, it is open to everyone across the country. “This event aims at unifying the whole region through music and dance during the festive season. Everyone who is willing to join forces to make it better is always welcome on board through any form of partnerships,” he explained.

He noted that their vision is to contribute to the long-term development of Bobirwa’s economy and community through empowering and nurturing the youth in the region. He also revealed that they provide a platform for the youth, sponsors who are willing to come on board, performers and the media to interact directly with Bobirwa youth, as well as tourists from different regions and thereby achieving their marketing, communications and corporate citizenship objectives.

Kgathi said the event supports the development of

micro businesses for local people as well as training and empowerment. He explained that food stalls, hospitality businesses, local printing companies are some of the sectors that benefit from the event. He said the list of small business participation and development grows each year. He stated that they have permanently employed five young people from Bobirwa and temporarily over 40 people from the region to help in organising the event from ticket sales to replicas, promotions team, and venue demarcation crew and security services.

However, Kgathi has decried lack of sponsorship for the event that he said has hit them hard as they have to dig deep into their own pockets.

He said though everything went well with the first event last year, they ended up taking a hit financially.

“The total cost for organising the event was close to P200,000. Most of the budget was allocated to paying artists, stage and other event necessities. We hope that people who see true potential of this event and how much it will benefit the Bobirwa region can come on board to help in any way they can,” he said.

The event, which will be on its second year running, is scheduled for Christmas eve at Bobonong show grounds and will feature local artist such as Champion hit maker Vee, Team Distant, man of the moment ATI, DJ Gouveia and many more. Tickets are sold at P100 for single, P140 for double and P250 for the VIP section.
