Disciplined TAFIC Humble Galaxy

KOKETSO KGOBOGE
FRANCISTOWN: Jwaneng Galaxy’s return to the Francistown Sports Complex where they clinched their first Mascom Top 8 trophy silverware ended in agony at the hands of a resolute TAFIC that stuck a dagger and held until the last breath.

TAFIC were made to sweat for their 1-0 win, but they proved uncompromising at the back and their goalkeeper Lesego Bosekeng also complemented his back four and emerged as the man of the match.

TAFIC stand in coach, Elias Chinyemba was pleased with his side’s defensive performance. “It was a very solid defensive display from us. The goalkeeper also came top when called upon and he got his reward.”

The Saturday encounter was played under a scorching heat with few supporters turning up. Galaxy stamped their authority from the word go, but failed to profit from the few chances they created. Senatla Molefhe directed his shot straight into the hands of the keeper when he escaped his marker into the box in the second minute. Tebogo Sembowa had his shot from 18-yard arc parried out in a series of opening attacks. It took close to 10 minutes for TAFIC to reach the other end with Kawushu Makai whose shot lacked sting to threaten.

Against the run of play, in the 18th minute, Makai released Mbatshi Elias on the left side, he drove into the box and buried at the top right. The heat took the sting off the game and TAFIC were happy to sit back and take the lead

to the break. TAFIC had a better opening from the dugout. Kemoreeng Batisani had his diving header tipped off at the near post by the alert goalkeeper in the 48th minute. Galaxy worked their way into the game, as the half grew old. Thabo Leinanyane saw his half volley from inside the box go over. Patrick Kaunda found an opening on the hour mark, but his shot from inside the box was well parried away by Bosekeng. Ten minutes later Molefhe saw his shot parried out. TAFIC conceded a lot of free kicks in dangerous positions but Galaxy failed to profit. Bosekeng was at the right place again to parry a goal bound Kaunda shot. Galaxy’s lacklustre display was summed up when their dangerous set piece was cleared off the danger zone. Frustrated Jwaneng Galaxy coach Michael Sithole refused to comment.
