Even though armed robbery is a global phenomenon, as there is no country that is immune to it, in Botswana it seems to be spiraling out of control as evidenced by the recent arrests. To make the situation worse, some locals have decided to cross the border, as some are currently linked to a multinational gang of armed robbers reported to have robbed Westlane Shopping Centre in Windhoek, Namibia at gunpoint recently, Mmegi Staff Writer PINI BOTHOKO observes

It has been a tumultuous period, especially in the city of Gaborone following arrests of several armed robbery suspects, who keep the police on high alert. These armed robbers have been targeting big supermarkets, where they walk away with huge amounts of cash.

With the police now in a mean mood, as evidenced by recent speedy arrests and with no-where to run for the robbers, it appears some have preferred to cross the borders in search of greener pastures. On Tuesday, the Namibian police released a statement, together with pictures and clips, on their Facebook page disclosing to have arrested a multinational gang of armed robbers amongst them suspected to be Batswana.
