“We were questioning five men in relation to the incident but have since released them because we could not find the person who stabbed him to death.

He said the incident occurred at night and most of the people who were involved were from the nearby shebeen acting under the influence of alcohol.

“No arrests have been made yet. We have established that the mob was acting under the influence of alcohol hence cannot recall events of that fateful evening,” said the acting station commander of Serowe police station, assistant superintendent Bopelo Ntatiwa in an interview with The Monitor.

Two weeks ago, irate residents of Sehunong settlement took the law into their own hands and killed the lad after he had stabbed to death two children, a seven-year-old boy and nine-year-old girl with a knife.

“Acting out of anger after learning about the lad’s horrible actions the furious mob that was drinking alcohol at the nearby sheeben took the law into their own hands and killed him.

beaten with something blunt. We also suspect that he might have been stabbed with sharp objects like knives because he also sustained a bad cut on his throat,” he said.

Ntatiwa said when the police arrived at the scene the victim was already dead with no one to be linked to his death.

The police said that to date they do not know what influenced the lad’s terrible actions.

“He killed his cousins’ children. We have learnt that the deceased are related because they are distant cousins.

It is alleged that the young man met the children on their way from the tuck shop, chased them and stabbed them to death with a knife,” Ntatiwa said.

He said all the deceased were laid to rest at Sehunong settlement on Tuesday and Wednesday last week. Ntatiwa however said the conduct of Sehunong settlement residents is condemned in the strongest possible terms.

“We urge all members of the community to report any criminal activity to the police and refrain from resorting to acts of vigilantism,” Ntatiwa said.
