Mmegi Online :: BISA candidates prepare for ‘war of attrition’

Incumbent president, Joshua Gaothobogwe is seeking another term where he faces his vice, Montlenyane Radihephi and Confederation of Schools Sport Association of Southern Africa (COSSASA) vice president marketing, Eagile Molelo.

Gaothobogwe said he believes in continuity, and has already done well for the association.

“My aim is to continue what we have been doing because we want to take BISA somewhere by engaging stakeholders, resource mobilisation as well as increasing participation of students amongst others,” Gaothobogwe said.

He said if given another chance he would tackle a lot of issues, such as sport development and developing coaches, as the teachers who carry the responsibility at the moment are not trained.

“Going forward, we will strive to engage different Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) affiliates by signing a memorandum of agreement that would benefit us all. So far, we have officially signed with the Botswana Football Association (BFA) and we are looking forward to tight the knot with other BNSC affiliates,” he said.

Another contestant, Molelo emphasised the need for good governance within the association. He said their manifesto is formed by basic fundamental principles of good governance, which will distill high-level targets and set operational goals that are

measurable.

“Our action plan is informed by the interests, ideas and views of the Senior Teacher Sports across the country as we were engaging with them as we very much value consultation. What we gathered is that our members want BISA that is inclusive, accountable, transparent and innovative,” Molelo said. He said they want to establish processes and systems to ensure talent identification and development, increased revenue and introduction of cost cutting measures and also to enhance organisational structure to improve efficiency and continuity, among others.

Gaothobogwe’s deputy, Radihephi said their key focus would be policy development and implementation, that is, for BISA to have policies and guidelines that determine day-to-day running of the organisation. He said the policies would outline the procedures to guide individuals involved in carrying out the mandate of the association.

“Currently most of our activities are not properly planned for. However, there is a need to carefully touch on those areas when given chance,” Radihephi said. Among his focus areas, he said they are also going to increase private school participation, empower women, collaborate with tertiary institutions and as well as establishing a fully fledged secretariat for BISA.
