Mmegi Online :: Santos suspend Moyo over misconduct

Moyo was appointed the team’s head coach at the start of the season on a one-year contract that had a two years extension clause.

The former TAFIC coach had not even sat on the bench as he awaits his work permit prior to the suspension, but he had led the team’s training sessions.

“Indeed, we have suspended Moyo indefinitely. He is suspended on an issue of conduct. It is in line with how he works with us (the management) and the team as a whole,” the club’s vice chairperson, Moholo Lesotlho briefly told Mmegi Sport yesterday.

Though he was coy with details, Lesotlho said the suspension was not triggered by the team’s poor start to the season. Santos have accumulated six points out of a possible 18 in the first six games.

The team had recorded two wins and four losses before last evening’s clash against Security Systems.

“The suspension is not necessarily about the team’s performance. His conduct has not directly affected the performance, but we felt like in the long-term it could

have an impact.

We have launched an investigation on the matter and as of now I cannot divulge more details. It will be unfair to us and him as well,” Lesotlho said.

Innocent Ranku, who guided ‘Ma-14’ to the league return after a four-year absence, has taken over the reigns on a temporary basis pending the outcome of the investigations. Ranku will be assisted by club legend, Kgosietsile Mampori while Terrence Madikwe will serve as the goalkeeper coach.

Moyo is not new to controversy. Earlier this year he was suspended indefinitely by TAFIC over a reported fallout with some of the team’s key players. The Zimbabwean was relieved off his duties at Matjimenyenga before the end of last season despite an impressive run in the team’s quest for promotion. Moyo has coached ECCO City Greens (now Francistown City Greens) and Notwane before in the elite league.

Santos lie in the relegation position of 14th and will travel to the far north west to face Sankoyo Bush Bucks on Saturday afternoon.
