MOLEPOLOLE: Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Gaborone United (GU) played to a one all draw in a BTC Premiership encounter played yesterday afternoon. Chiefs were without their coach Bongani Mafu as Innocent Morapedi and Pontsho Moloi led the team in the season opener.

The team, however welcomed back defender Keabetswe Jenamiso who has been on the sidelines since January 2016 due to an injury. GU coach, Rodolfo Zapata handed a number of new signees their debuts including Dirang Moloi and Thatayaone Kgamanyane. The Reds piled pressure on their opponents and came close in the 13th minute but Orebonye’s acrobatic effort went wide. Two minutes later, following a counter attack, Kabelo Seakanyeng was denied by Kenalemang Neo in a one-on-one situation.

Chiefs missed two glorious chances inside two minutes. Lesego Lubinda’s effort was cleared off the line by Karabo Phiri before Goitseone Phoko denied Tendai Nyamadzawo. In the 33rd minute, Kenalemang superbly denied Orebonye after the striker broke through. Debutant, Lubinda announced his arrival at Chiefs when he headed Khumoetsile Kufingwa’s cross to give his side the lead on the stroke of half time. Magosi took a one goal lead in to the break. Moyagoleele looked the better side in the first minutes of the second half. In the 51st minute, Jackson Lesole missed the post with a long range effort. Moyagoleele piled pressure on their opponents and were awarded a penalty in the 56th when Seakanyeng was brought down

The winger stepped up and converted from the spot to level matters. The Reds controlled much of the game as Chiefs sat back, looking to catch their opponents on the counter. “I’m very proud of my players, we dominated most of the game. Unfortunately, we couldn’t win but am very happy,” GU’s coach Zapata said after the game.

His counterpart, Morapedi said his game plan was to win but was happy to walk away with a draw. “We should look at improving the result. We wanted to win the game but we had to settle for a draw,” he said.
