Khama appoints Makgato Industrial Court Judge

President Ian Khama has appointed former Francistown chief magistrate Gaedupe Makgato a Judge of the Industrial Court.

Makgato replaces former Industrial Court Judge Virgil Vergeer who resigned from his position earlier this year and rejoined private practice. Vergeer is now a partner at Collins Newman and Company, a leading law firm he worked for seven years ago.

The notice in the Government Gazette dated September 15, 2017, reads: “In exercise of the powers conferred on the President by Section 15 (1) of the Trade and Disputes Act, notice is hereby given, in accordance with Section 15 (3), that Mr Gaedupe Lengoko Makgato has been appointed a Judge of the Industrial Court with effect from 1st August 2017”.
