The fired chairperson of the Botswana Democratic Party Youth League (BDPYL) National Executive Committee (NYEC), Simon Mahvange says he will not step down from his position as the decision to fire him was ill-advised.

“I do not recognise that expulsion from those members. NYEC was supposed to be in Tshimoyapula campaigning for the bye-election as per our agreement with party central committee. So, some preferred to remain in Gaborone to plan that meeting. I will be waiting for the formal letter from that said meeting and I will respond to it and take it to the central committee (of the motherbody),” Mavhange told Mmegi yesterday.

Youth league committee members met on Sunday, where they resolved to remove their chairperson. Correspondence from the information officer, Bonang Morapedi stated that this decision was made after it was discovered that Mahvange issued untruthful statements to the central committee of the mother body and party president, Ian Khama.
