Mogoditshane Senior head teacher, Kesaobaka Matsoma, used the opportunity as the host of Southern African Teachers’ Organisation (SATO) games to plead with the BTU to consider adopting her school and relieve it of pressures, in particular, pleading for a car and copier donation.

Matsoma said the boarding school has for a long time been without transport that could be used to run school errands, including transporting students during emergencies, especially at night when there is no nurse to attend to them.

According to the school head, individuals’ cars are often used to run school errands and also in medical emergencies, something she said was not desirable since the government policy does not cover individuals’ during accidents, a situation that

discourages individuals from engaging in such assistance.

She told the SATO gathering that currently her school does not have a single car.

According to some teachers that The Monitor spoke to, even the last car that the school had, a Mahindra van, never served its purpose as it always had mechanical issues, before it was eventually involved in a road accident. Matsoma took over as the head of Mogoditshane Senior Secondary at the beginning of this year.

BTU deputy president, Gotlamang Oitsile pledged that the BTU and its business wing will look into the request and revert to the school at the earliest convenience, adding that the request is in line with the BTU’s mandate and objectives.
