JWANENG- Cyclists from around the country joined the Jwaneng Cycling Club to raise funds for charity through the annual General Manager’s Cycling race on Saturday. The race raised P400,000 for charity with races of varying distances from the 60km to 110km along the Jwaneng Sekoma road.

Most cyclists attributed their low speed to the strong winds. Thabiso Mokalake from Tsela Riders won the 60km race.

He said although he did not prepare much, he managed to perform well. He noted that last year he was disqualified after using the wrong route but was determined to scoop the title on Saturday. In the 110km male category, Abeng Malete proved his mettle ahead of Amogelang Thwabi and Sethomo Masepe. The trio showed determination but it was Malete who sailed through.  “It was really an amazing experience and I have learnt to be patient and be passionate about the sport because it requires a lot of hard work. I raced for one hour six minutes through the strong wind, which was quite challenging especially at the turning points. There were however less obstacles and less competition,” Malete said.
