Botswana Keen On Introducing Chess In Schools

World Chess Federation (FIDE) president, Kirsan Ilyumshinov has urged the basic education ministry to introduce chess as part of the school curriculum.

Ilyumshinov appealed to the Minister of Basic Education, Unity Dow to introduce chess as part of the learning programme where children at primary, junior and senior schools learn chess as a subject.

He said chess is a sport that entails thinking and for students, it can assist them in improving their academic results as it has been proved in  countries that adopted the same approach.
