Botswana’s promising sprinter, Baboloki Thebe suffered an injury blow when the men’s 4x400m relay team crashed out in the heats at the just ended IAAF World Championships. Thebe, who took over the baton from Nijel Amos, however managed to finish the race on Saturday as Botswana failed to qualify for the finals.

The injury is expected to keep him out of action for about six weeks. He will miss the IAAF Diamond League scheduled for later this month. The relay team, boasting of Thebe, Amos, Onkabetse Nkobolo, Karabo Sibanda and Isaac Makwala was one of the country’s hope for a medal at the World Championships.

However, Makwala was rested in the heats after running three races in a space of two days. He was forced to take part in both the heats and the semi finals on the same day on Thursday after being quarantined for 48 hours on suspicion that he was one of the athelets attacked by the Norovirus.
