Two Zimbabwean men, Brian Nkomo and another absent in court are on trial before Extension II magistrate, Ntombizodwa Ncube for house invasion and robbery after they allegedly broke into the house of Tafa’s wife Pedzani Tafa and stole items worth over P60 000, P4 000, 35 British pounds, R200, US$41, using violence.

The stolen items included a white i-pad, black iphone, apple ipad, assorted colognes, white iphone, Black berry torch, Black Lenovo laptop and charger, a black purse, two silver rings and a silver Tempo wrist watch.

The value was estimated at over P60,000.

When testifying, Pedzani Tafa, 48, told the court that on November 6, 2015 she woke up to find two masked men by her bedside.

She told court that the accused were holding screwdrivers and a tazer, which they used to scare them.

Tafa said the accused asked her for money. “I took my handbag, while constantly asking not to be hurt. I took my out P4,000 which I had and gave it to one suspect. Brian then took my bag and searched it further and took US$41,

R200 and 35 British Pounds in my purse,” Tafa said.

She also told the court that the accused tried to lock her and her niece inside the house after robbing them.

Although she pointed out that they were not harmed, she said the accused kept pressing the tazer indicating that he would use it if they did not cooperate.

Tafa further said after the matter was reported, she was called the following day by Gaborone Central police to identify their stolen items.

She stated that all items were recovered except for the wristwatch and the two silver rings.

She also indicated that only P1,900 cash was recovered from the accused persons. Tafa said the police only handed her the recovered items on November 10, 2015.

Magistrate Ncube adjourned the matter before cross-examination after the defence objected to the state’s submission of a signed document which was signed by the witness when she received recovered items as part of evidence in court.

The defence argued that they were not served with the document. The continuation of trial was set for today.
