BFA Faces Suspension After Under-20 Withdrawal

The national Under-20 women’s football team will not honour the return leg of the World Cup qualifiers with the Botswana Football Association (BFA) citing lack of funds. The team was hammered 7-1 by Kenya in the first leg played at the Lobatse Sports Complex a fortnight ago.

They were scheduled to play the return leg at the weekend. The decision comes after the BFA cast doubts over the senior women team’s participation at this year’s edition of the COSAFA Women Senior Challenge. “We would not honour the return leg.

We looked at our financial situation and decided that it would not be wise to play the return leg. Our team has young players, we want to nurture their talent and build a stronger team for the future,” BFA communications and marketing manager, Tumo Mpatane told Monitor Sport yesterday.
