Africa’s soccer mother body, CAF is mulling over an expanded 24-team Africa Cup of Nations finals, which will see nearly half of the 55 member states at the biennial competition.

After FIFA introduced a 48-team World Cup starting in 2026, CAF appears keen to follow suit, but the move might prove unpopular as almost half of the teams will qualify for the AFCON finals.

The increase in teams is one of the mooted new introductions, which also include a June/July AFCON tournament.
