Cycling is on the verge of writing history by making its first appearance at the Commonwealth Youth Games that are scheduled for Bahamas. The sixth annual games will be held from July 18-23.

Botswana is sending a team of three cyclists; Dimpho Masi (man), Arnold Kokwane (man) and Tsaone Latiwa (woman). The trio is competing in the road race and time trials. Botswana Cycling Association (BCA) secretary general, Tlamelo Dube told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they have a relationship with World Cycling Centre Africa based in Potchefstroom, South Africa, where they send teams for specialised training. 

“We sent a team there last year and early this year we sent them again. Upon their return we received an invitation from Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) and we put in a request for funding. It was approved and we were one step ahead in terms of training.
