Soldier up for stepdaughter sexual assault

FRANCISTOWN: Principal Magistrate Dumisane Basupi has ruled that Botswana Defence Force (BDF) soldier has a case to answer for alleged repeated sexual assault on his stepdaughter between 2013 and 2014.

Based at the Area S military garrison but cannot be named for ethical reasons, the soldier was originally facing three counts of raping the young girl, but has applied for a “no case to answer,” through his attorney, Kagiso Jani.

Yesterday, Basupi ruled that while the state had not proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused actually raped his stepdaughter, evidence pointed to attempted rape on three occasions.
