Mmegi Online :: Fuming Majaga alleges political witch-hunt

Majaga was allegedly found in possession of beef and hides suspected to be stolen.  The state alleges that Majaga, Shadreck Mochabange, Tshokolo Mochabange, Semphete Malindi and Goletswang Mpule acting jointly at Komtsia cattle post near Dukwi village were found in possession of meat and hide of a cow suspected to be stolen on August 16, 2006.

The case was dropped in 2014 but was reinstated during the beginning of this year.

Appearing on behalf of Majaga and his co-accused, attorney Oratile Konne said that he was instructed by his clients to apply for a permanent stay of prosecution. In response, Moffat Dick from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) said the state should be given time to file documents opposing the permanent stay of prosecution.

Magistrate Kose Makobo set the matter for July 20 for argument concerning the permanent

stay of prosecution application. After his brief appearance in court, a furious Majaga poured out his frustrations about the delay in bringing the matter to finality. He said his adversaries are using the courts as a smokescreen to fight political battles.

Majaga said what boggles the mind is the fact that the case always resurfaces whenever the election period approaches, a clear example that the case is politically motivated.

“This matter has more than 10 years. It was at one point heard at the High Court but was later withdrawn. My adversaries are using  it to get back at me, but voters understand the widespread political shenanigans at play. This is nothing but pure political witch-hunt,” a furious Majaga said.

Majaga added that eventualy, the truth will come out and he will prevail against his rivals.
